Gene, I’m struck by the apparent resemblance to early Christian and Eastern Orthodox iconography, especially with the stylized halo and the cross imagery, and the use of trap parts. You haven’t gone messianic on us, have you? The mezuzahs suggest otherwise, unless, of course, you made them all before this and similar works!
Hi Bob,
I don’t often check my website unless I have something new to include. I apologize for taking so long to get back to you. Your comment is interesting. All of my pieces emerge unconsciously. I don’t have any preconceptions as to what I am going to make. Early Christian, Eastern Orthodox–who knows? I’ve been told I was a monk as well as a nun in previous incarnations. But, indeed, there are also Jewish and Buddhist themes. The Jewish ones were perhaps most conscious because that’s the life I currently inhabit plus my father and uncle’s family were quite devout Catholics. So, it feels like I dialed the right incarnation this time. But through art, everything can percolate to the surface. It was good to hear from you. I hope you’re well. All good wishes.
